MEDIA RELEASESPANISH SOCIETY OF ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY TO IMPROVE PATIENTS OUTCOME WITH mSCOPE from AURORA MSCMONTREAL, March 31, 2009 – Aurora MSC, the world leader in digital pathology communications, announced today they have been selected by the Spanish Society of Anatomic Pathology (Sociedad Española de Anatomía Patológica) to supply their medical education software platform, mScope for the teaching and accreditation of Spanish Pathologists. This supply agreement comes after the first phase of the project of the Health Care Services of Castilla-La Mancha (SESCAM), showed that digital pathology is setting new trends to build a state-of-the-art healthcare system. As is the case across Spain and much of the rest of world, the community had a chronic shortage of pathologists. Pathologists at smaller hospitals in the system felt isolated and unable to collaborate with their colleagues. They relied on secondary consultations for many specialty areas. Mr. Pierre Le Fèvre, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aurora MSC stated that “in addition, pathologists wanted better learning tools to improve communication between clinicians and others involved in difficult cases. It turned to digital pathology as a way to confront these challenges.” The Hospital General de Ciudad Real (HGCR), one of the region's largest hospitals, ran a pilot study in its Center of Innovation in Pathology Information Systems (CITI-Pathology) in which it evaluated whether digital pathology would function optimally in a hospital environment. Dr. Marcial Garcia Rojo staff pathologist and coordinator of Information and Communication Systems, Hospital General de Ciudad Real lead the project. Dr Rojo concluded that the “HGCR has benefited from its digital pathology program in several ways, including faster turnaround for secondary consults and a dynamic and fluid environment for collaboration between pathologists, leading to efficient decision making and better management practices”. All pathologists working in the region of Castilla-La Mancha are able to benefit from this innovative communications tool.
